I was praying as I was driving east to Aurora Tuesday, feeling a little nervous about my upcoming meeting with the owner of Metco Landscaping. Asking for the donation of the landscaping for our new Resource Center building, possibly valued at $100,000, is a big ask… even if Mark has been very generous with Hope House in the past!
Sitting in Mark's conference room, I opened our capital campaign brochure and quickly shared that we are now serving 150 teen moms and counting — and how our current space is so cramped that our teen moms are literally lining up five deep just to use the microwaves during GED lunch break.
"Are you here about the landscaping," he interrupted. "You didn't have to drive all the way out here for that – you coulda just called. Of course we'll do it. Lemme know when you need it." (Mark speaks as quickly as he moves!)
After our brief meeting he gave me a tour of their main building, taking me out to the parking lot, which was all but empty. He pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of the lot he had taken on a Saturday. It was filled with Metco trucks and equipment as far as you could see.
Mark shared that sometimes he comes to work on Saturdays just to see what God has done in his business because he started out with just one truck. He said that we just have to have faith and perseverance.
Amen!
